The Aquaculture Program of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) hosted a special lecture on 7 November 2025, delivered by Professor Kevin Fitzsimmons from the University of Arizona, USA, on the topic “Innovation, Integration, and Profitability in Tilapia Aquaculture: Modernization for a New Era.”
In his presentation, Professor Fitzsimmons explored advanced tilapia farming strategies currently applied in leading aquaculture regions worldwide. He highlighted how integrated systems, data-driven management, and the use of modern technologies—such as improved feed formulations, recirculating systems, and value-chain optimization—can enhance productivity and profitability while maintaining ecological sustainability. He emphasized the shift toward more efficient, resource-smart, and market-oriented tilapia production as essential for meeting future demand.

The lecture was well attended, with 24 participants, including students, faculty, and staff from the AIT Aquaculture Program, as well as representatives from the University of Stirling and the World Aquaculture Society – African Chapter. The session was highly engaging and comprehensive, prompting valuable discussions on emerging opportunities and future pathways for advancing tilapia aquaculture globally.
