Platform for Aquaculture researches

Latest trends in Aquacultural research are from here!

Thai aquaculture industry is well reputed for production of high quality and safe seafood, especially marine shrimp and giant freshwater prawn, in both domestic and international markets. However, beset with various constraints such as disease outbreaks, production of both commodities have sharply fallen since 2013.

There is need to promote aquaculture research aiming at the development of innovative culture practices applicable to the industry, which can be accomplished by pooling the resources and the technical expertise.Industry stakeholder-consulted and coherent education programs that address the issues relevant to farmers and producers are scarce. To bridge this gap, an academic consortium will be developed at AIT Aquaculture to pool the resources and expertise from other research institutions, public sector organizations, and stakeholders representing the aquaculture industry. Together, the educational consortium will spearhead the development of educational modules that address the novel aquaculture technologies and scientific culture protocols to transform current culture practices to sustainable aquaculture production processes.

AIT is developing a collaborative academic and research platform in partnership with the aquaculture industry and farmer clusters in Thailandto develop sustainable production and marketing technologies that address farmers’ production constraints, enhance their production efficiency, and assure product quality and food safety to revive the industry. AARM, AIT’s technical expertise will be complemented with other disciplines such as business management, development planning and economics.

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), as an international institute of academic excellence, can act as the hub for the consortium to coordinate education and research efforts and to spread sustainable aquaculture technologies throughout the Asia-Pacific and beyond. To sustain the positive outcomes from this consortium and to maintain constant communication among consortium partners, a dedicated website will be developed and administered by AIT, which will serve as a knowledge hub for students, researchers and all concerned with the development of sustainable aquaculture.
